Volcano!
After lunch every day, tamariki come into Kono and have a piece of fruit from their lunchbox while books are read. The 'whetu' gets to choose the books. On Wednesday a book about volcanoes was chosen sparking a conversation about how lava comes to the surface and spills out over the earth.
On Thursday Kono ventured out to the sandpit to create a maunga for the lava to spill out over. Lots of wonderful team work, kōrero, and persistance to complete the task.
Each tamaiti had a turn to pour their vinegar to create the lava. Amid all the exclamations of surprise, we talked about what we
noticed. What could we see? What could we hear? What could we smell?
